Now Viewing: duck_huntTag type: Copyright Duck Hunt (ダックハント , Dakku Hanto) is a light gun shooter video game developed and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) video game console. The game was first released in Japan on April 21, 1984. It was released on October 18, 1985 in North America as a launch game for the NES, and on August 15, 1987 in Europe. In Duck Hunt, players use the NES Zapper to shoot ducks that appear on the television screen. The ducks appear one or two at a time, and the player is given three shots to shoot them down. The player receives points upon shooting each duck. If the player shoots the required number of ducks in a single round, the player will advance to the next round; otherwise, the player will receive a game over. Duck Hunt appears as a playable character in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U. The "character," known as Duck Hunt Duo in the PAL version, consists of the dog, one of the ducks, an unseen person using an NES Zapper (an example of breaking the fourth wall), and the Wild Gunmen, the five antagonists of the NES game Wild Gunman. Many of their attacks are a homage to NES Zapper-compatible games, including Hogan's Alley. The hunting dog, often referred to as the "Duck Hunt Dog" or the "Laughing Dog", is infamous and iconic for laughing at the player whenever the player fails to shoot any of the ducks on screen. He has become an infamous character in video game legacy, labelled as "one of the most annoying video game characters ever". Many have expressed the desire to be able to shoot the dog, which is possible in Vs. Duck Hunt and Barker Bill's Trick Shooting; as a Super Smash Bros. playable character he is additionally susceptible to all sorts of tortures and vengeance.
