    Love watching the restoration work. Just completed my boat ready for the Australian summer. Saying that it was minor work compared to the Whaler.

    Would be great if that whole deck section would come off for you to do work like that and then screw back down... doing big work like that through a hatch is so difficult.

    I use these on my buddy's whaler the screw the doors back to the hinges they worked out really well and they were quite a bit cheaper on the azon.

    It never ceases to amaze me how boat builders setup the internals with the top cap off with zero care about the down the road issues of the shit nest they have created.

    Some stainlesss tee-nuts would solve the battery switch attachment if you can get them without holding up the project too much.

  • @JosephKearsch
    @JosephKearsch 5 месяцев назад +1

    You might want to consider threaded inserts to mount the battery switch

    Hello, i have the exact same boat and I am starting a refit . Could you share the list and the link where you find all those parts ( cup holder , switch panel , screw/insert for the hinge ...) It will be really useful for me .
    Thanks a lot
    keep doing what you it's really inspiring ans motivating .

      Lol I can share the list with as many links as I have, some stuff you will have to source yourself though. Like for the inserts for the compartments, you have to get those from a Boston Whaler Dealer, not too hard, just call a Marine Max or your closest dealer and they can order and get as many as you need :) But here is my list and some stuff might not be on there, but it's what I've got done for this project:

    You have really great content on your channel. I have learned a lot.
    Also I have restored quite a few fiberglass center consoles. Wondering why you don’t remove all the items to be replaced then clean,wet sand, buff and polish the entire boat. It makes it much easier to work on everything plus you are not getting cutting compound on your new rigging, also you wouldn’t have to waste time cleaning or taping the new components. I noticed you did the same process on the Key West restoration. I am sure there might be a method you process, but I think smarter not hard has served me well in the past

    • @BornAgainBoating
      @BornAgainBoating  5 месяцев назад

      Mainly just never wanted to clean the boat completely and then get it trashed again when running all the wires and installing everything. Though the Key West was different, usually I'll wetsand polish and wax where the components go, then install the components. But pulling everything out, running all the wiring and everything, then wetsanding polishing and waxing and then installing the components probably the best way :)
      Also sometimes waiting on components throws a kink in things too lol :)

    What is the best product for removing/cleaning fish blood from the deck? I have been scrubbing with multiple products and it just doesn't seem to come out! Thanks

    • @BornAgainBoating
      @BornAgainBoating  4 месяца назад

      Well if it's just fish blood, depending on how long it's been there bleach is the ticket, but that stripes everything else off the gelcoat as well so you'll need to put a protectant on it afterwards. Also, you should get a washdown pump on your boat so you can spray the blood off immediately before it dries, save yourself the trouble, or just take a bucket and scoop a bucket of water and dump it on the deck to wash the blood off before it dries, eliminate the problem before it is ever a problem ;)

    Hello, what are you doing with some of the old parts? like the battery switch box? Is it any good to use on another boat? I have a boat I could use it on and mine goes in fresh water ONLY as I live in New Mexico. Let me know thanks, and NO this is NOT spam. I'm real.

    • @BornAgainBoating
      @BornAgainBoating  5 месяцев назад +1

      Lol :) depends on the part, the bad parts we through away and the other stuff that is usable sometimes goes on other boats depending on the situation :) the battery boxes are cheap, you can get them from Amazon for about as much as it would cost to ship there lol :)

    That’s a great project boat. Is it easy to get marine parts in the keys? Are the prices competitive compared to the main land?

    • @BornAgainBoating
      @BornAgainBoating  5 месяцев назад +1

      For the most part yes, depends on the part of course, and actually it's actually easier for some parts just because they are more common for the boats rather than some places in the main land that don't see that many boats lol prices can be a little more but usually it's really close from what I have found, again, depends on the part :)

    Hi, I was wondering if you could recommend and electric boat trailer winch ? Thanks!

    • @BornAgainBoating
      @BornAgainBoating  5 месяцев назад

      I don't have a ton of experience with them, but from what I've experienced the heavier the boat gets the harder it is to find a good one, like here is one that a lot of people like but it's only a 2K lbs: amzn.to/3Yteblu
      Where as like Fultons seem to be decent on heavier boats but they are more expensive and the cheap on that I found on Amazon has mixed reviews :/ amzn.to/4dKhI3q
      So it's hard to say :/ really depends on how heavy your boat is

    No room in the console for all the switches and batteries? Or just too much of a pain in the ass to move them all lol. That console looks like it was designed to look nice, but has limited access and storage, maybe there are side hatches I’m not seeing.
    I swear, every time I do a project like this, I look back and year later and realize how much better I could have done it!

    • @BornAgainBoating
      @BornAgainBoating  5 месяцев назад

      Nah, it's just got limited storage in the boat :/ and yeah, same here lol you spend hours and hours and hours on a project and look back later and think of all the things that you could have done differently or better lol :)

      a pressure test will tell you if the tank has any leaks. most boat shops have the equipment. if the tank holds an increased pressure for a specified period, it's good.

    At what point do you just decide to just gut it and put all the components back in the way you want. Seems like it’s harder to work around a crapy install.

    • @BornAgainBoating
      @BornAgainBoating  5 месяцев назад

      I guess I just make that decision based on what we plan on doing, a lot of times I do that, but if it's not a rewire, I don't :/ it only takes a couple hours to undo everything and untangle it and then put it the way we want it to be :)
