Heluva Good cheese to close western NY plant
SODUS, N.Y. — The Heluva Good cheese packaging plant and country store in Wayne County are shutting down, 90 years after the company's founding.
The state Labor Department says the 53 employees at the packing plant and six at the store in Sodus will lose their jobs when operations cease this summer.
Heluva Good has been a subsidiary of HP Hood of Lynnfield, Massachusetts, since 2004. A Hood spokeswoman tells the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle, http://on.rocne.ws/1bea1Dx, that Heluva Good cheese will be made by Schreiber Foods in Wisconsin.
She said the Heluva Good dip plant in Arkport, Steuben County, will continue to be operated by Hood.
